Knowing how to keep your kitchen cabinets well maintained is an important part of protecting your investment. Since cabinets are one of the most expensive pieces of a kitchen it makes sense to keep them in great condition for as long as possible.

When well taken care of, quality kitchen cabinets can last for decades. Luckily, tending to them well is fairly simple. Clean them relatively often and use the correct cleaners when doing so. The latter is particularly important because there are a lot of cleaners with chemicals in them that will permanently damage your surfaces.

Cleaning Cabinets 101

To begin cleaning, rub the cabinets down with a micro fiber cloth that’s been dampened with a little warm water. When wiping down your cabinets be sure to do so with the grain, never against the grain. If this is done often, with enough just water, and a micro fiber cloth, then it should do the trick. The idea here is to prevent needing to use cleaners at all. If water doesn’t clean the cabinets well enough then make a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar. It might be wise to add a few drops of essential oil in there to counter act the smell of the vinegar. Lavender essential oil works very well. Finally, use a dry micro fiber cloth to dry the cabinets.

If the aforementioned method doesn’t clean them well enough then you can try mixing baking soda with water and scrubbing the stain until it disappears. Rinse it off then and dry with a micro fiber cloth. If you’re not the DIY type there is a product called Murphy\rquote s Oil Soap that can be used to clean wood cabinets.

Act Quickly

Most of us are aware that a lot of things become more difficult to remove and may stain or cause other damage if it is allowed to soak into the surface. If a spill occurs, wipe it as soon as possible. Be sure to blot liquids to soak them up, wiping will spread it around. After it is soaked up then you can wipe down the cabinets.

Avoid Moisture

This is the arch nemesis of cabinet doors. Surfaces near the dishwasher, sink, and coffee makers are most susceptible. Be aware of this and try to avoid allowing your studio hausinc cabinets to stay moist for long periods of time.

Use the proper cleaners!

There are a lot of cleaners out there that can damage the finish of your cabinetry. Only cleaners that are designed for cleaning cabinets.
